Most parents dream of the day their child will finish high school and attend college. Parents of a child with learning disabilities are forced to assess the likelihood of their child graduating high school with a standard diploma or the feasability of a college education. Often parents of children with ld are riddled with fears of uncertainty for their child's future: Will they be happy? Will they be able to live independently? Will they be able to support themselves? Will they have friends? Will they be successful in life?
As parents, we may do well to breathe deeply and take our own advice often given to our children - address one issue at a time; don't overwhelm yourself with worries; and never quit! If we really think about it, the answers to most of the questions above are relative and measurable to our own personal levels of happiness, independence and success. So, keep a positive outlook!
